Love fabric softener but hate the chemicals? Fragrances, alcohols, ethanol and more coat your fabrics with a thin layer of lubrication. This causes them to feel soft, but is bad for the fabrics themselves and, oh, so toxic for you too! Want a way to soften your laundry naturally? Then this recipe video is for you! Bonus - it'll take care of some static cling as well.
All you need to gather is plain white vinegar, essential oils of your choice, and a bottle to mix in. We prefer to upcycle and reuse an old fabric softener bottle that was well-cleaned. You could actually just mix the oils into the vinegar bottle itself too! Below is a sampling of what oils you might like.
Lavender - relaxing, odor fighting
Citrus (think Lemon, Orange, Citrus Blast) - odor fighting, uplifting, fights grime and dirt well, disinfecting
Tea Tree - fights mold and mildew, antifungal, great for a load that has been left in the washer too long
Eucalyptus - want to smell like you just went to a spa? Then choose eucalyptus. Also great for fighting germs and cold season
Rosemary - boosts the immune system, disinfects, and calms
